12 Weeks

in J&L Start a Family, Weeble Bi-Weekly

How far along: 12 Weeks

How big is baby: Weeble is currently the size of a Plum (0.49oz, 2.13in)

Sleep: Still not great. I had many people tell me I can get the Snoogle from Burlington for much cheaper than Amazon, but I haven’t found one in a store yet. In the meantime, I’ve been using just another regular pillow between my legs to help keep me on my side, and it seems to help a little bit. Still having super crazy dreams, the worst of which was about a big argument with Justin, and I woke up super mad at him!

Excited about: I know this is going to sound weird, but this week I started feeling super nauseous, and I’m so glad. Through this whole process, I only really felt sick for about 9 days in Weeks 7-8 and then it disappeared and I’ve felt perfectly fine since. On one hand I like to think maybe the Universe is taking it easy on me, considering what I went through to get here, but at the same time, it’s scary not feeling anything. Nausea sucks, but it’s also very reassuring!

Anxious about: Still waiting for our next appointment. It’s next week (July 10th), but that still feels like so far off. I keep thinking they’re not going to find a heartbeat, and I really need to just stop. Again, feeling nauseous this week has helped this anxiety at least a little.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: I’m still not eating very much meat, unless you count hotdogs, which, I surely don’t. I have a feeling my cholesterol is going to be through the roof soon. I really should slow down on those. I have started taking veggies and hummus in my lunch everyday, so at least I’m following doctor’s orders! I knew food was going to be the hardest part of this for me, simply because I’ve always been such a picky eater, and my palate is so limited to start. When I can’t even look at some of the foods I would normally eat, what’s leftover isn’t very much.

Gender: Too early to know, but we’re definitely going to find out when we can!

Movement: I have been feeling a lot going on in there, though I know it’s not the baby moving yet. It’s more just my own body changing, things shifting, and making room for the little one. Once in a while a sharp pain will surge through and I’ll be in agony, but then it will be gone as quickly as it came.

The belly: I still haven’t officially “popped” so it continues to look more like a beer belly than a baby belly. I did start using a belly band that one of my bosses gave me, and I love it! It’s really comfortable, and will hopefully work with my regular jeans for a long time. My hope is that by the time I would need maternity jeans, the weather will be cool enough to switch to sweater dresses with tights.

Miscellaneous: We started talking about a shower this weekend. I had already decided that I don’t want to do the traditional me sitting up front making a bunch of women watch me open gifts, because that’s super awkward for me, and I hated it at my bridal shower. Instead, we’re stealing an idea from my friend Jena, and are going to have a big celebration picnic with all of our friends and family, men included. I have since found out that more and more people are doing this, so I started looking up invitation ideas on Pinterest to see how others have worded it. I’m excited to start planning, and I think it’ll be a really fun, relaxed day with all of our favorite people.

Best moment of the week: We received a package of diapers from a friend this week (along with a couple super cute sleepers), and for some reason it is so surreal to me. We actually have diapers in our house. For our own child. Crazy.
